1.         Tuesday night, the Torrance City Council approved a 10% rate hike that affects electricity and water.   City officials said the money was needed to pay for upgrading equipment which will add up to $5 a month to the average homeowner's bill.


 


2.         The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors fired Chief Administrative Officer Susan Reed after eight years of service.  The supervisors  fired Reed because of allegations of mismanagement of county funds, but has not been charged with any crime.   


 


3. Monday morning, the police were called to Redondo Union High School. Officials there noticed graffiti spray painted throughout the campus.  Sgt. Shawn Freeman said that at least 38 tags were sprayed throughout the school.   Damage is estimated to be about $3,000.  Police have no suspects.


 


4. A woman in Redondo Beach was engaging in suspicious activity, checking car handles on vehicles parked in the 500 block of Frances Ave. yesterday. Police were called and the woman was questioned and searched. They found three cell phones, a wallet, a GPS device , an iPod and tools used to break into cars. . She was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, petty theft and an outstanding warrant.

  1. This is good work, but I think that numbers 1 and 2 have had some information cut from it that could have been left in. For instance, the woman who was fired in 2 had redecorated her office for $5 million, and she made a $170,000 salary. Details like that add some blood to the summation. They aren't absolutely important (the fact she was fired is critical info), but still, they will hook your readers in.
